Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, is located in the Mahalangur Himalayan range on the border between Nepal and Tibet. It has an elevation of 8,848.86 m/29,029 ft above sea level and was first climbed on May 29, 1953, by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa from Nepal and Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand via the South Face. Since then, many climbers have followed their steps and summited Mount Everest, achieving numerous world records in the history of mountaineering.
Lhotse, the world's 4th highest mountain, is located south of Mount Everest and connected with the South Col. The main summit of Lhotse is at 8,516 meters (27,940 feet) above sea level, and it lies on the border between Tibet (China) and the Khumbu region of Nepal.
