Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is a medium-sized landlocked country in Asia, it sits along the southern slopes of the Himalayan mountain ranges but also includes parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plain. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north, and India in the south, east, and west. At the same time, it is narrowly separated from Bangladesh by the Siliguri Corridor, and from Bhutan by the Indian state of Sikkim.
Nepal owns a diverse geography, including fertile plains, subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world's ten tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. Kathmandu is the nation's capital and the largest city. Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious, and multi-cultural state, with Nepali as the official language.
Geographically it has been divided into three regions; Terai Region, the plain land in the southernmost part of the country sits just 59m above the sea surface to 610m, Hilly Region, the middle part of the country lies between the Himalayas and Terai which sits 611m to 3300m above the sea level. Around 68% of the total land lies in this region, making it the largest region of the country, and the Himalayan Region, the country's northernmost region that sits above 3301m to 8848.86m, the highest point of the entire planet. It owns 8 of the 10 tallest peaks on the planet. This region works as the border between Nepal and Tibet, the autonomous part of China.
